Brickfield Studios & Triangle Gallery

In collaboration with Space, a leading visual arts organisation, we revitalised a disused east London printworks into Brickfield Studios, a new centre for creative activity.

Alongside this we redesigned Space’s Triangle Gallery in Hackney, rationalising the front-of-house into a sequence of public-facing exhibition and reception spaces.

Client: Space
Construction Value: £1.2m
Completion: June 2015
Location: Tower Hamlets & Hackney, London

Brickfield Studios

Brickfield is a subtle reworking of a solid industrial structure. A reorganised building with a new mezzanine level affords 57 artists secure studio space. Expressive new window and roof openings bring natural light into the studios and activate the street. Communal facilities and a new cafe offer places to socialise and share work.

Triangle Gallery

Our Triangle Gallery took a muddled collection of entrance lobbies and offices at Space’s HQ, rationalising them into a welcoming open-plan reception and street-facing gallery. The gallery now showcases artwork, furniture and installations by the organisation’s own artist tenants.

Platforms for Art

Brickfield Studios and the Triangle Gallery use intelligent, affordable solutions to create new platforms for creative activity. In an ongoing relationship with Space, we have demonstrated how targeted changes on tight budgets can secure the future of creative workspace in London.
